How the directory service works

1

Type the contact you're looking for in a text message, for example:

  • Number search: NAME CITY
  • Name search: PHONE NUMBER
  • Address search: NAME or NUMBER
  • Company search: COMPANY NAME
2

Send the message to 16500.

Price: €3.50 per search.

3

You'll get the result in a reply message. The reply shows how many results were found and which one you're viewing, e.g. 1/5.

4

If there's more than one match, text L to 16500 to get the next ones. Each additional search costs €3.50.

How do I identify an unknown number?

If an unknown number has tried to reach you, you can first try to identify the caller from open sources. Service numbers and nuisance callers can often be found with a quick Google search.

If free sources don't reveal who called, text the number to 16500 and get the answer right away.

Why isn't the caller's number shown?

If the caller's number is hidden and your screen only says “Unknown number”, the caller has blocked their number from being displayed.

In that case, the only way to find out who's calling is to answer.

How do I hide my own number?

You can temporarily hide your number from the recipient in your phone settings or by adding #31# before the number.

If you want, you can make your contact details unlisted by asking your operator – then they won't be available in public directory services either.

Can an unlisted number be traced?

Hiding or unlisting a phone number doesn't prevent searches by the authorities, as the operator always records the caller's details. This means the caller can be identified in emergencies or when a crime is suspected, for example.
